German Schlager Star Peter Petrel Passes Away at 86

Peter Petrel, a well-known German schlager singer, died at the age of 86 surrounded by family in Koblenz.

Peter Petrel, celebrated for his work as a singer, entertainer and jazz musician, died at 86 while surrounded by his family in Koblenz. A close family source confirmed the death, and his wife reported that he was able to speak with his son on the phone shortly before he peacefully fell asleep, without any suffering. Manager Hansi Nahen praised Petrel as a wonderful person who captured audiences with his joyful presence.

Petrel first gained fame as a jazz artist before achieving his biggest hit with the 1972 chart-topping duet “How Do You Do?” alongside Jeannie McKinley. He later enjoyed solo success and hits such as “Hamburger Deern” and other lively songs that reflected his preference for fun over following trends.
