German tourist dies after falling on Mount Jasar hike in Cameron Highlands
A 58-year-old German visitor fell into a ravine near the summit of Mount Jasar and was pronounced dead at the scene.
While hiking Mount Jasar in the Cameron Highlands, 58-year-old German tourist Jorg Habelbusch fell into a ravine along an old water channel near the summit. His wife, 57-year-old Marina Dehne, said the accident happened as he stepped onto a slope, and another hiker attempted unsuccessfully to lift him. The Pahang Fire and Rescue Department dispatched 16 personnel, who reached the site after more than an hour of navigating the steep trail.
Upon arrival, rescuers found Habelbusch unconscious; medical officers declared him dead at the scene. Police, Civil Defence Force members, and officers from the Cameron Highlands Forestry Office assisted in lowering the body down the hazardous slope amid heavy rain, a process that took nearly three hours. The remains were transferred to Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
