Germany unveils design of new digital ID wallet app d-you

In Berlin, Federal Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger revealed the design of d-you, a smartphone app intended to act as a digital identity wallet. The app’s colour scheme combines green and blue with a distinctive black-red-gold side stripe, symbolising its German digital focus. d-you is Germany’s contribution to the EU’s EUDI-Wallet project, which obliges all member states to launch a mobile ID platform. When rolled out next year, the app will first enable users to load a digital copy of their national ID card and will gradually support additional credentials such as driver’s licences.
The service is optional and is promoted as a way to make online identity checks—like opening bank accounts or proving age for purchases—more convenient. At launch, roughly forty providers, including the postal service, several banks, utilities, municipalities, universities and state governments, will be able to accept the digital ID.
