Germany unveils world’s tallest wind turbine tower, surpassing the Eiffel Tower

Germany has erected a 365-metre wind turbine tower in Schipkau, making it the highest turbine structure globally and taller than the Eiffel Tower.

In the Lusatian town of Schipkau, Germany, a wind turbine tower reaching 365 metres has been completed, overtaking the Eiffel Tower’s 330-metre height. Developed by GICON under a contract from the Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation (SPRIND), the structure places the rotor hub at 300 metres above ground. The turbine’s rated capacity is 3.8 MW, and early estimates suggest it could produce about 18 million kilowatt-hours each year, supplying electricity to a sizable number of households.

The prototype was installed within an existing wind park on a former mining site and is slated for operational testing in November. Future versions aim to exceed 7 MW, and data collected will inform a possible pilot park of three to five similar turbines.

Why it matters

The record-breaking turbine could boost renewable energy output without needing new land.
