Giants' Chauncey Golston Earns First-Team Snapshots Amid Defensive Shuffle

Defensive end Chauncey Golston is receiving first-team reps in New York Giants practice, while Darius Alexander drops on the depth chart.

Observations from Tuesday's Giants practice revealed that defensive end Chauncey Golston, originally signed as an edge rusher, is now earning first-team repetitions on the defensive line with D.J. Reader and Shelby Harris. In contrast, projected starting defensive tackle Darius Alexander, who began camp with momentum, has slipped to a mix of second- and third-team snaps.

On the outside, cornerback Paulson Adebo displayed tight coverage in 11-on-11 drills, nearly intercepting Jameis Winston and disrupting another route, suggesting a push for a top-three cornerback spot alongside Greg Newsome II and Deonte Banks. The offense struggled in a red-zone series starting at the 17-yard line, with a pass to Isaiah Likely broken up by Arvell Reese and a fourth-and-long ending in a checkdown to Devin Singletary. Injured players Colton Hood, wide receiver Jalin Hyatt (ankle/leg) and defensive lineman Josh Tupou remained on the sideline with trainers.

Why it matters

The shifts indicate how the Giants' roster is shaping up for the upcoming season.
