Glacier Collapse Triggers Deadly Floods Along Nepal-China Border
A high-altitude glacier failure caused massive flooding across the Nepal-China frontier, killing at least 797 people and leaving over 3,000 missing.
The sudden break of a Himalayan glacier unleashed a torrent that swept through the Trishuli and Bhotekoshi river valleys on Wednesday. Villages, roads and hydropower installations were destroyed, and bodies were carried downstream into India. In Nepal, hundreds of hydropower workers remain unaccounted for, and roughly 93,000 residents have been impacted as rescue crews confront collapsed bridges, blocked tunnels and fresh landslides.
