A new Earth for All poll of 17 major economies reveals strong public anger over economic inequality and a sharp drop in confidence that governments can address it.
The third round of Earth for All surveys, covering 17 of the world’s largest economies, shows a clear consensus that economic disparity has become excessive and that the system is tilted toward the rich and powerful. A substantial majority of participants demand sweeping economic transformation, yet confidence that governments will act for the broader public good has slipped to roughly 31%, a decline from almost 40% two years prior.
The poll also indicates that two-thirds of respondents feel their societies are more divided than a decade ago, attributing this fragmentation to entrenched inequality. This erosion of trust fuels support for strong, less constrained leaders in several countries. The article points to emerging efforts such as the formation of an International Panel on Inequality, a UN-backed high-level leaders event, and California’s Proposition 40 billionaire tax as signs that the issue is gaining policy attention.
