GlobalFoundries and Marvell boost SiGe production for AI data-center optics
GlobalFoundries and Marvell Technology have broadened their multi-year pact to raise silicon-germanium output at the Burlington, Vermont fab, aiming to meet rising AI data-center demand.
GlobalFoundries and Marvell Technology have extended their multi-year collaboration to increase silicon-germanium manufacturing at GlobalFoundries' Burlington, Vermont facility. The expanded capacity is intended to satisfy the accelerating demand from AI data centers for high-speed, low-energy optical networking components. Robb Johnson, Marvell's Vice President of Foundry Technology, highlighted that the deeper partnership will ensure sufficient SiGe supply as the market expands.
The additional output will help Marvell produce advanced optical networking hardware, including pluggable transceivers, near-packaged optics and co-packaged optics. Shares of GlobalFoundries rose nearly 6 % in pre-market trading, while Marvell gained about 4.5 % following the announcement. The deal underscores the growing importance of SiGe technology in supporting AI-intensive workloads.
