Gloucester County mother and stepfather charged with murder of 9-year-old daughter
India Miller and her husband’s stepfather, Sean D. Scott, have been charged with first-degree murder after their 9-year-old daughter died from prolonged abuse.
The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office announced that India Miller, 27, and her husband’s stepfather, Sean D. Scott, 45, are charged with first-degree murder in the death of their 9-year-old daughter. The couple initially reported to police that the child might have been hit by a vehicle, but hospital staff noted injuries that did not match a crash. Video from the property showed no cars passing at the alleged time, and the child’s 4-year-old sibling told investigators that their father struck the girl in the face and eyes.
Blood-stained clothing and cleaning supplies were found in the home, and an autopsy revealed multiple blunt-force injuries at different stages of healing, indicating prolonged abuse. Both Miller and Scott are also charged with accomplice murder, child-welfare endangerment, filing a false police report, and hindering prosecution. They remain incarcerated at Salem County Jail and face potential life sentences.
