Gold and silver ETFs tumble sharply, with silver hitting an 11-month low

Gold and silver exchange-traded funds fell sharply on Tuesday, mirroring declines in international metal prices, with silver ETFs losing up to 53% from their 52-week peaks.

On Tuesday, Indian gold and silver exchange-traded funds recorded declines, tracking falling global metal prices. Silver ETFs such as Kotak, HDFC, Mirae Asset, UTI, SBI, Tata, Edelweiss, DSP and Axis each slipped roughly 2%, while gold ETFs including DSP, Baroda BNP Paribas, Mirae Asset, Edelweiss, Zerodha and Tata fell between 0.2% and 0.4%. Silver spot prices reached an 11-month low of $52.81, down more than 21% over two months and 56.6% from the January 2026 record.

Gold prices retreated about 11% to near $4,000, a 29% drop from their recent high of $5,626.80. NSE figures reveal that several silver ETFs have lost over half their value since their January 2026 peaks, and the Baroda BNP Paribas Gold ETF is down 26% from its 52-week high.

Why it matters

The sharp fall in metal ETFs signals broader market weakness and could affect investors' portfolios.
