Gold-Clad Nude Trump Statue Unveiled in European Parliament
A gilded, naked sculpture of Donald Trump by Danish artist Jens Galschiøt was displayed in the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
Danish sculptor Jens Galschiøt installed a satirical, gold-plated statue of Donald Trump in the European Parliament building in Strasbourg. Named "Orange Plague" and dubbed "King of Injustice," the piece depicts a nude Trump perched on a man's shoulders while brandishing a long golf club. The 2.5-metre figure, coated in 23-carat gold, was initially concealed by an orange drape and unveiled the following morning.
Positioned at a high-traffic nexus linking the Parliament’s two structures, it will be on view through Thursday. The work was commissioned by left-wing MEP Per Clausen, who argued that anyone too thin-skinned to see the sculpture does not belong on the world stage. The artist labeled Trump a major obstacle to solving climate change, echoing the statue’s provocative message.
Why it matters
The statue uses art to spark debate about political leadership and climate policy within a key European institution.
