Golf clubs turn to AI to trim admin work and boost staff efficiency
Golf Genius is deploying artificial-intelligence tools to automate routine club operations, promising reduced labor spend and higher productivity.
Facing labor expenses that often exceed half of gross revenue, golf clubs are experimenting with AI-driven software from Golf Genius, a firm that supports about 11,000 facilities worldwide. Its AI module can read shipment documents and instantly update inventory, while digital leaderboards eliminate the need for manual setup and tie-breaking calculations. At The Ooltewah Club, head professional Thomas Durbin says the digital board is now the norm, and registration for a member-guest tournament filled in three minutes.
Horseshoe Bay Resort credits the platform with handling a surge in group rounds and events without a proportional rise in staff workload. Founder Mike Zisman frames the benefit as a mix of cost avoidance, reduction and added value, noting that clubs often avoid hiring additional assistants rather than lay off existing ones. Yet Momentum Golf Partners’ Tyler Brennan cautions that extra automation may simply create idle time if staffing levels are already sufficient.
Why it matters
AI tools could reshape how golf clubs manage costs and member services, affecting thousands of facilities and their patrons.
