Google DeepMind launches AlphaGenome Atlas to map effects of billions of DNA variants
Google DeepMind unveiled AlphaGenome Atlas, a database that predicts how roughly 9 billion possible single-letter DNA changes influence gene expression, RNA splicing and chromatin across tissues.
The AlphaGenome Atlas, built by Google DeepMind, offers pre-computed predictions for about 9 billion single-nucleotide variants in the human genome. Researchers can query the resource to see how each variant may alter gene expression, splicing or chromatin accessibility in diverse cell types. This scale of functional insight was previously unattainable and helps narrow candidate mutations when studying rare diseases, where testing billions of variants experimentally is infeasible.
Why it matters
It gives scientists a fast way to assess billions of DNA changes, speeding up the hunt for disease-causing mutations.
