Google expands Gemini AI assistant in Chrome for Android users in India, adds auto-browse for subscribers
Google has made Gemini in Chrome available to all Android users in India and introduced an auto-browse feature on desktop and Android for Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers.
Google has rolled out Gemini in Chrome to all Android devices in India, embedding an AI assistant that can summarise web content, interact with Google services like Calendar and Gmail, and create images via the Nano Banana model. The same browser now offers an auto-browse function on both desktop and Android, enabling the AI to autonomously visit websites, complete online forms and carry out complex, multi-step tasks such as comparing product prices, booking event tickets, making restaurant reservations and scheduling appointments.
Access to auto-browse is restricted to subscribers of the Google AI Pro and AI Ultra plans, with daily request limits of 20 and 200 respectively. Charmaine Dsilva, senior director of product management for Chrome, emphasized that the system is designed with security-by-design principles, detecting known threats like prompt injection and requiring user confirmation for certain sensitive operations. The rollout follows earlier releases of Gemini in Chrome on Windows, Mac and Chromebook Plus devices earlier this year.
Why it matters
It gives Indian users a more powerful AI tool within the dominant web browser, changing how they browse and complete online tasks.
