Google extends ChromeOS updates to 2034 while preparing Googlebook OS rollout
Google will continue delivering ChromeOS updates and security patches until mid-2034 and will transition eligible newer Chromebooks to the upcoming Googlebook OS.
Google has clarified that ChromeOS will remain supported with updates and security fixes until mid-2034 for both enterprise and education users. For Chromebooks purchased now that have a ten-year support lifecycle extending past 2034, the company pledges assistance in moving to the forthcoming Googlebook OS, an Android-derived operating system. Many of the newest Chromebook models will be capable of this transition, and the firm will provide further migration information soon.
The inaugural Googlebook OS devices are scheduled to ship on October 4, and the first set of device-management features for schools and businesses will arrive in the latter half of 2027. This plan ensures a continuous support path while Google shifts its laptop strategy toward the new platform.
