Google introduces Motion Assist dots to ease car sickness on Android phones

Google has begun rolling out Motion Assist, an Android 17 feature designed to combat motion sickness when a phone is used inside a moving vehicle. By tapping into the device’s accelerometer and gyroscope, the system projects animated dots around the screen edge that move counter to the car’s direction, reducing the mismatch between visual input and vestibular cues. Users can customise the dots’ colour, shape and transparency, and choose between automatic activation upon detecting vehicle motion or manual toggling through a Quick Settings tile.

Early phases target certain Pixel models, with the setting located in Google Settings under the user’s profile. Although the author’s test devices have not yet received the update, the feature is expected to become available to more Android users soon.
