Google lets AI-built apps install directly from Play Store
Google announced that custom apps created with its AI Studio can now be launched straight from the Play Store without needing a PC connection.
Google revealed a feature that enables AI-generated, custom Android apps to be distributed through the Play Store without the traditional requirement of connecting a phone to a computer. Launched in the United States, the service keeps these personal apps separate from the main store while maintaining security and privacy. Installation can be done with any standard Google account, and a sharing function for a limited audience is slated for future release.
Google frames the update as an on-ramp for emerging developers, offering a path to graduate to a professional developer account that undergoes the same Trust & Safety checks as established apps. Sam Bright, vice president and general manager of Google Play, highlighted the alignment with high-quality standards. The initiative builds on the company’s May rollout of AI-driven app creation tools.
Why it matters
It simplifies distribution for AI-generated apps, lowering barriers for new developers and expanding Google Play’s ecosystem.
