Google revamps Play Store UI for vehicles with built-in Google services
Google announced a redesigned Play Store that automatically adjusts to a car’s screen size and adds one-tap app downloads, rolling out in the next weeks.
Google revealed that its Play Store will receive a major redesign for vehicles equipped with Google built-in, automatically adapting to the screen’s dimensions and orientation. The new interface highlights featured apps on the home page and enables single-tap installations, while a streamlined navigation bar groups Apps, Games, Search and More on the left side or top of the display. YouTube Premium subscribers will retain audio playback while the car is in motion, and a suite of fresh apps—including Starz, Firefox, Ludo King and JioHotstar—will be accessible when the vehicle is parked.
This rollout follows earlier deployments in the Polestar 2 and the 2023 Honda Accord Touring and aligns with Google’s recent switch to Gemini AI in supported models from brands such as Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan and Volvo. The update is expected to begin reaching users in the coming weeks.
Why it matters
The redesign makes it easier for drivers to discover and install apps, enhancing the functionality of cars that rely on Google services.
