Google's Gemini app reaches one billion monthly active users

Google announced that its Gemini chatbot has surpassed one billion monthly active users, becoming the company's 14th product to hit that milestone.

Sundar Pichai revealed on X that the Gemini chatbot has crossed the one-billion monthly active user threshold, marking it as the 14th Google offering to achieve that scale. This rapid adoption puts Gemini on a comparable trajectory to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which reached the same milestone in June. Google continues to weave Gemini into its ecosystem, from Search’s AI Mode to Workspace, Android and a standalone application, while noting that the figure excludes AI usage from other channels.

The company highlighted that 63% of Gemini users engage via voice and that the service now creates more than 150 million images daily. Recent updates include the Gemini 3.5 Flash model, designed to improve coding support and autonomous agent functions, and the platform reports over 100 million active iOS users.

Why it matters

Reaching a billion users shows Gemini's rapid adoption and strengthens Google's position in the competitive AI chatbot market.
