Google selects four Indian climate startups for its first DeepMind AI accelerator

Google revealed that its new DeepMind AI for the Planet accelerator will support four Indian climate-tech startups: Terrastack, Varaha Climate, Farmers for Forests and Climitra Carbon, alongside twelve other Asia-Pacific participants. Over the next three months the firms will gain access to Google’s latest AI stack, technical support and expert mentorship to scale solutions for sustainable agriculture, carbon removal and biodiversity.

Terrastack combines satellite imagery and agronomic data to deliver plot-level insights for smallholder farmers. Varaha Climate enables farmers to generate carbon credits by verifying regenerative practices with remote sensing and AI. Farmers for Forests deploys AI-powered drones to turn agroforestry into measurable carbon and biodiversity actions, while Climitra Carbon uses Geo-AI to validate invasive-species removal and conversion into biochar. In parallel, Google announced additional initiatives to boost India’s clean-energy transition, including a solar-mapping API for 300 million rooftops, a 150 MW solar project with ReNew Power in Rajasthan, a partnership with Mitti Labs to promote alternate wetting and drying for rice, and new research opportunities on the Manthan platform.
