Google to shift all Pixel manufacturing out of China by 2027

Google plans to cease production of Pixel phones, watches and earbuds in China, moving the entire line to Vietnam and India starting in 2027.

Google is set to end all Pixel device production in China, with a transition to Vietnam and India slated for 2027, a move. While the firm has been building manufacturing capacity in the two Southeast Asian nations, the majority of its current output still occurs in China. Early this year, Google successfully launched Pixel 11 production in Vietnam after investing in testing equipment and tooling, encouraging the company to extend similar processes to its watches and earbuds.

Suppliers have received instructions to relocate all Pixel manufacturing outside China, a shift made easier by the brand's limited sales in the Chinese market and its relatively small user base. The company also intends to raise Pixel shipments by 8 to 10 percent from the 2025 baseline of 12 million units, hoping the devices will drive adoption of its Gemini AI features. To mitigate rising memory component costs, Google is bundling phone memory chip orders with those for its cloud computing division.

Why it matters

The relocation could reshape global tech supply chains and affect jobs in China, Vietnam and India.
