Google unveils Pics, an AI-powered design suite for Workspace users

Google introduced Pics, an AI-driven image creation and editing tool integrated into Workspace, aiming to simplify professional-grade graphics for businesses.

Google announced Pics, a suite of AI-enhanced design tools built for Workspace customers, designed to streamline the creation of marketing and presentation graphics. Powered by the Gemini engine and the Nano Banana generative model, Pics offers granular prompt controls that let users select specific objects or text within an image and describe desired changes, reducing the trial-and-error typical of chatbot-generated visuals.

The service launches both as an independent Workspace app and as an integration for Docs and Slides, with plans to add Drive support in the near future. Users can generate images from scratch, edit individual elements, upscale outputs to 2K or 4K resolution, and automatically crop for web, social, print, or digital use. Collaboration is enabled through sharing within teams, and Google suggests the tool can replace third-party platforms such as Canva and Adobe Express for routine design tasks. After a testing phase following Google I/O, Pics is rolling out to Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Google AI Pro, Ultra personal, and Google AI Pro for Education plans.

Why it matters

It gives businesses a built-in AI design tool, reducing reliance on external graphic services.
