Google unveils universal Gemini AI agent for enterprise workflow
Google introduced a cloud-based Gemini AI agent that can be accessed from a single interface to handle tasks across Workspace apps and third-party services.
At the Gemini at Work briefing, Google announced a universal Gemini AI agent designed for enterprise users. The agent operates in the cloud, allowing it to maintain a consistent context while users switch between Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Calendar and other Workspace applications. It also supports interaction from mobile phones, desktop computers, web browsers, and external services such as Slack and Microsoft 365.
The platform can call on specialized sub-agents for particular job functions and can function as a "coworker" with a unique @agents.company.com email address. Task execution is automatically matched to the most suitable AI model. The Gemini agent is presently available only to enterprise clients in a private preview, hinting at Google's broader vision for a single-window AI assistant. This follows the earlier launch of the consumer-focused Gemini Spark agent, which remains separate from the new enterprise interface.
Why it matters
The tool could streamline business workflows by centralizing AI assistance across multiple apps and devices.
