GOP Senate hopeful Michele Tafoya says Minnesotans embarrassed by widespread fraud

Senate candidate Michele Tafoya told listeners that many Minnesotans feel ashamed about pervasive fraud, citing the Feeding Our Future scandal.

Michele Tafoya, the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, asserted that Minnesotans are “embarrassed” by the level of fraud they perceive in the state. In her remarks she referenced the Feeding Our Future initiative, a COVID-era program championed by Congresswoman Ilhan Omar that was intended to provide meals to children but allegedly delivered only a handful of meals while at least $250 million was siphoned off. Tafoya cited Aimee Bock, who received a 500-month prison sentence, as a leading figure in the fraud, and said whistleblowers were silenced.

She argued that no members of the Walz-Flanagan administration have faced consequences, and implied that the scandal influenced Tim Walz’s withdrawal from a planned gubernatorial run. The comments were made on a daily news program and are being used to frame her campaign narrative.

Why it matters

The allegations shape public perception and could influence the upcoming Minnesota Senate race.
