GOP Super PACs Shift $10 Million Away From Kean, Miller-Meeks to New Targets
Republican super PACs, led by the Congressional Leadership Fund, pulled $10 million from Tom Kean Jr. and Mariannette Miller-Meeks' campaigns and redirected it to 16 other districts, reflecting a strategic retreat from vulnerable seats.
Republican super political action committees, coordinated by the Congressional Leadership Fund, withdrew $10 million from the races of Tom Kean Jr. in New Jersey’s 7th district and Mariannette Miller-Meeks in Iowa’s 1st district, as well as from Michigan’s 8th and Ohio’s 1st districts. The cash will be redistributed to 16 other districts, including contests in Florida, California, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Texas, in an effort to target vulnerable Democratic seats and keep the GOP on track for a 218-seat House.
Chris Winkelman, president of the CLF, said the organization has built infrastructure to maneuver in a difficult environment. Both incumbents are rated as likely to lose: the Cook Political Report lists Kean as a clear underdog and Miller-Meeks’s race as leaning Democrat, with recent polls showing Democratic challengers ahead. Meanwhile, Republican-aligned spending continues elsewhere, with Elon Musk contributing $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund and other PACs supporting Senate races in red states. The reallocation underscores the party’s strategic focus on districts it deems more winnable in the 2026 elections.
Why it matters
The funding shift shows GOP strategists pulling resources from vulnerable incumbents to focus on districts they believe they can win, shaping the 2026 House map.
