GoPro Mission 1 Pro ILS Review: Interchangeable Lenses Transform the Action Camera

GoPro’s latest offering, the Mission 1 Pro ILS priced at $699, expands the Hero line by allowing users to attach any of the roughly 300 Micro Four Thirds lenses, fundamentally changing the way the camera is operated. Core hardware remains unchanged - 8K/60 video, a 1-inch sensor, a 2.59-inch OLED screen and the Enduro 2 battery - but the lack of autofocus and a 2.7× crop factor mean focus must be set manually, and many lenses with electronic focus are unusable.

The added lens mount increases the body’s depth and height, and overall size and weight depend on the chosen lens, making portability variable. In testing, the reviewer found focus tools like peaking and digital zoom helpful but not foolproof, especially for vlog-style shooting. Image quality saw a marked improvement over the standard Mission 1 Pro, with the tested lenses delivering shallow depth of field and cinematic looks, though high-bitrate recording and constant screen use cut battery life to about two hours in hot conditions. While the ILS does not dominate any single market segment, it may appeal to creators who value GoPro’s ruggedness and mount ecosystem while seeking interchangeable-lens flexibility.
