Government and Grab allocate RM160 million to boost earnings for e-hailing and p-hailing drivers
A RM160 million package jointly funded by the government and Grab will raise minimum incomes and subsidise social security for e-hailing and p-hailing workers.
The new scheme will increase the net monthly earnings of e-hailing drivers by up to RM227 and p-hailing riders by up to RM100. It also covers vehicle-maintenance assistance and a matching contribution to Socso, starting at 35% and rising to 50% if platform firms add their own contributions. The announcement was made while tabling the 2027 budget.
Why it matters
Higher earnings and social-security support could improve livelihoods for thousands of gig-economy drivers in Malaysia.
