Government clamps down on Awami League birthday rally and JaSaD office raid

In Dhaka, security forces moved swiftly to disperse a sizable crowd of Awami League members who were commemorating former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's birthday with music, colour powder and fireworks in the Dhanmondi neighbourhood. State minister for information and broadcasting YasserKhan Choudhury denounced the gathering as an attempt to destabilise the nation and issued a stern warning. The crackdown continued later in the day when police raided the central office of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSaD) in Gulistan, acting on intelligence that "Joy Bangla" slogans had been shouted inside.

Nearly four hundred people were present at the JaSaD office, and several were taken into custody. Deputy commissioner Mohammad Akter Hossain of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police confirmed the operation was based on the received information. The incidents highlight heightened tensions between the ruling administration and opposition groups.
