Government cuts protocol spending by half after new secretary takes office
Dan Reșitnec, the government’s secretary general, announced that protocol expenses for the May-July period have been reduced by 50%.
In a statement on Wednesday, Dan Reșitnec, the secretary general of the Government, reported that protocol costs for the May-July window have been cut by 50% compared with the same period a year earlier. The savings arise from a reduction in lengthy analysis sessions, which previously allowed officials to host external guests with a per-person allowance of up to 150 lei. Monthly expenditures dropped to 95,000 lei in March, 68,000 lei in April and 1,800 lei in May after Reșitnec assumed his role.
He criticized the prior practice as unnecessary and pointed to the resignations of several PSD ministers in early May as a backdrop for the reforms. The remaining protocol budget now covers essential government meetings, conferences and events with international participation.
