Government Keeps Sukanya Samriddhi Account Rate Steady at 8.2% for Q4 2026
The government has left the Sukanya Samriddhi Account interest rate unchanged at 8.2% for the October-December 2026 quarter.
The government's recent quarterly assessment confirmed that the Sukanya Samriddhi Account (SSA) interest rate will stay at 8.2% for the October-December 2026 quarter, marking no change from the previous period. While small-savings rates are examined every three months, a review does not automatically result in a rate shift; the most recent adjustment to any such scheme was made in December 2024. The SSA, managed through India Post, is a government-backed savings product aimed at supporting the financial needs of girl children under ten, offering tax benefits under Section 123 of the Income Tax Act.
Deposits can range from a minimum of Rs 250 to a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh per financial year, with the account maturing after 21 years. Early withdrawals are permitted for education after the girl turns 18, and premature closure is allowed under limited circumstances such as serious illness or death of one outlet.
