Government launches fact-checking X account to counter budget misinformation, targets Medef president's claim

The French government opened a new X account called “Soyons précis” to verify budget-related statements, immediately challenging a recent LinkedIn post by Medef head Patrick Martin.

During one outlet discussion of France’s 2027 budget, the administration launched a dedicated fact-checking channel on X named “Soyons précis”. The account’s purpose, as described by a source at Matignon, is to swiftly counter false or deceptive claims about government policies, especially those concerning the upcoming budget. Its inaugural post directly refuted a LinkedIn statement by Patrick Martin, president of the Medef, which claimed that businesses would face substantial extra levies.

The government account argued that Martin’s numbers were incorrect, citing official documents to support its correction. Each entry on the platform will be backed by precise references to legislation and official sources. Officials stressed that the initiative aims to enrich public debate with accurate figures while not substituting for the political discussion itself.
