Government launches national taskforce to combat misogyny and sexism
A new government-led taskforce has been created to eradicate misogynistic attitudes online, at work and in communities, with its first meeting set to focus on young people.
The government has established a national anti-misogyny taskforce to target harmful sexist attitudes across digital platforms, workplaces and community settings. Led by women and equalities minister Bridget Phillipson, the group includes Girlguiding CEO Felicity Oswald, West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin and End Violence Against Women Coalition interim director Janaya Walker. Their inaugural meeting will concentrate on issues affecting young people, drawing on reports of increasing online misogyny shared by Girlguiding members.
The taskforce will seek to turn research into concrete policies, promote education on gender stereotypes, consent and healthy relationships, and address the weaponisation of violence against women and girls. This effort aligns with Labour’s 2024 manifesto commitment to halve VAWG within a decade.
