Government launches second round of forest-fire relief focused on health aid
The central government has transferred the second phase of fire-relief assistance, prioritising medical supplies and health services for affected communities.
The government’s second tranche of forest-fire assistance has been disbursed, with the minister emphasizing that health protection for impacted populations is the top priority. Funds will be used to procure masks, portable oxygen units, and to set up oxygen shelters and treatment centres for those suffering acute respiratory infections. This follows an initial distribution to six priority provinces and 35 districts earlier in September.
The new aid also expands support for firefighting gear, water pumps, hoses, peatland water injectors, deep wells, and logistical backing for fire-fighting teams. Around 71,000 personnel are deployed in combined ground and aerial operations, including water-bombing and dry-ice seeding, which have shown positive results in recent days.
Why it matters
Health-focused aid helps protect vulnerable residents from the severe smoke and respiratory risks caused by widespread forest fires.
