Government lowers NEET-SS cut-off to 30%, adding about 6,000 eligible candidates
The Centre told the Supreme Court it will reduce the NEET-SS eligibility cut-off to 30%, which should make roughly 6,000 more aspirants eligible for the Special Stray Vacancy Round.
The Indian government submitted a note to the Supreme Court stating that the NEET-SS cut-off will be lowered to 30% to ensure that existing training capacity is fully utilized. This adjustment, made after stakeholder consultations, will be applied to the Special Stray Vacancy Round and is expected to generate roughly 6,000 extra eligible candidates, about three times one outlet vacancy count. Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati informed the court of these figures.
Additionally, the Centre responded to a pending dispute over Tamil Nadu's in-service seats, agreeing to return 40 vacant seats to the state for a week-long stray vacancy round of its own. The Medical Counselling Committee will oversee the special round for these and other unfilled super-speciality seats across India over a two-week period.
Why it matters
The cut-off change could significantly increase access to postgraduate medical seats for thousands of Indian candidates.
