Government says Congress unwilling to join delimitation talks, hints at short Parliament session

The government announced it has already consulted several opposition parties on delimitation but will not meet Congress, accusing it of unwillingness, and suggested Parliament may convene briefly to consider the bill.

According to officials, the government has held discussions with parties such as the Samajwadi Party, DMK and NCP regarding a new delimitation proposal. It declined to engage with Congress, stating the party repeatedly demanded consultation but remained unwilling to participate. This development follows a call by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for an all-party meeting on the issue. The ministry hinted that a short parliamentary session could be scheduled to address the legislation.

Why it matters

The dispute could affect how electoral boundaries are redrawn and influence upcoming legislative agendas.
