Government swaps regional delegates for election lists amid public order criticism
The executive has dismissed six government delegates and seven sub-delegates to place them on the PSOE electoral slate, sparking accusations of politicising public-order management.
Ahead of the forthcoming vote, the government complied with the LOREG by terminating six delegates and seven sub-delegates, then inserting them onto the PSOE's candidate rosters. These officials had faced ongoing scrutiny for handling public order during demonstrations, such as the violent encounter between a Vox rally and a left-wing gathering in A Coruña's Plaza de María Pita, and the improvised security response to an anti-Ayuso protest in Madrid.
Police agencies JUPOL and CEP had previously demanded the resignations of the Galicia and Madrid delegates for alleged negligence and lack of clear instructions. Similar disturbances occurred in Pamplona, Zaragoza and prolonged housing occupations in major cities, prompting accusations of partisan bias in security planning. The timing of the dismissals, coinciding with the electoral campaign, fuels claims that loyalty to the ruling party is being rewarded despite the controversies surrounding public-order management.
Why it matters
The reshuffle links electoral strategy to officials accused of mishandling public safety, raising concerns about impartial governance.
