Government to Release Timms Review Findings on Future of PIP Benefits

The administration led by Andy Burnham will publish the Timms Review, which proposes major reforms to the Personal Independence Payment system.

Andy Burnham's administration is set to disclose the outcomes of the Timms Review, a comprehensive analysis of the Personal Independence Payment programme. Initiated in October 2025, the review aims to ensure the benefit remains fair, supports health and independence, and adapts to future needs. The final report, expected in November, will outline how one outlet points-based, non-means-tested system might be overhauled.

Critics note that reforms could make it harder for claimants with conditions such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD to qualify, and could lead to reduced payments for some households. Existing recipients should be aware that the Department for Work and Pensions can cut or stop benefits for reasons including missed assessments, improved health, relocation abroad, or alleged fraud. Claimants uncertain about any changes are advised to review DWP correspondence or contact the PIP enquiry line.

Why it matters

Potential reforms to PIP could change eligibility and payment levels for millions of disabled Britons.
