Government to Trim Ministry Workforce by Ten Percent Over Coming Year
The cabinet plans to reduce staff in ministries by 10% through phased cuts next year, according to Industry and Trade Minister Karel Havlíček.
Karel Havlíček announced that the government will revisit a proposal to cut ministry jobs by a tenth, implementing the reductions gradually throughout the next year. He emphasized that the cuts should spare high-performing civil servants and those dedicated to public service. Merging agencies is presented as a primary method, citing the recent consolidation of CzechInvest and CzechTrade, which eliminated about 80 positions.
Why it matters
The plan could reshape public-sector employment and affect thousands of civil servants in the Czech Republic.
