Government urges 1.2 million workers to join Lindung 24 Jam after new tax relief

Human Resources Minister R. Ramanan called on 1.2 million workers who have not yet contributed to Perkeso's Lindung 24 Jam scheme to enrol, citing a RM150 annual tax relief announced in the 2027 Budget.

At a launch event in Alor Gajah, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan urged the roughly 1.2 million Malaysians who have not yet joined Perkeso's Lindung 24 Jam scheme to take advantage of a new RM150 annual tax relief included in the 2027 Budget. He stressed that the scheme provides essential financial protection for accidents occurring outside regular working hours, citing 10,424 claims filed from June 1 to September 30, about 85 per day.

Ramanan also said the government will table a Traveller Scheme for the 480,000 Malaysians who travel daily to Singapore during one outlet parliamentary session. Additionally, he called on gig-economy platform providers to co-fund contributions using a RM30 million allocation, raising the matching rate to 50 percent for gig workers earning RM3,000 or less, and reminded them that mandatory deduction enforcement began on October 1. The event also featured the first i Lindung u Gegar @ Melaka programme, targeting 15,000 visitors and registering 400 housewives as Lindung Kasih contributors.

Why it matters

The push could extend social security coverage to millions, reducing financial risk for workers and gig employees.
