Governor Sherrill campaigns for veteran House and Senate hopefuls in New England
New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill toured New Hampshire and Massachusetts this week, supporting Democratic candidates who are military veterans.
Governor Mikie Sherrill, a Democrat from New Jersey and ex-Navy helicopter pilot, spent early August campaigning for fellow veterans in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. In New Hampshire she stood beside incumbent Representative Maggie Goodlander, a Navy Reserve intelligence officer, and Democratic House hopeful Maura Sullivan, who served as a Marine in Iraq. Moving to Massachusetts, Sherrill backed Representative Seth Moulton, also an Iraq-era Marine, in his challenge to incumbent Senator Ed Markey.
The governor promoted her Mission to Deliver political action committee, which has rolled out endorsements for more than a dozen veteran candidates in ten states. She argued that veterans bring dedication and a willingness to confront the status quo in Washington. Although some observers wonder if she is eyeing a 2028 presidential run, Sherrill told reporters she wants to act as a power broker, ensuring candidates align with New Jersey’s focus on opportunity and the future of its children.
Why it matters
Veteran endorsements could shape the upcoming midterm races and signal the governor's growing national influence.
