GP urges adults over 35 to buy cheap blood pressure monitor to prevent silent killer
A GP highlighted the risk of undiagnosed hypertension and recommended purchasing a £30 home monitor for anyone over 35.
Dr Mark Porter, an NHS GP, cited the Our Future Health Study showing that more than one-third of its 1.4 million participants have elevated blood pressure, many of which are undiagnosed. He noted that 59 % of those with hypertension had never received a treatment plan. Porter - who has appeared on one outlet - urged anyone over 35 to purchase a £30 upper-arm cuff monitor approved by the British Heart Foundation. He explained that early detection can curb risks such as stroke - about 100 000 UK cases annually - and other complications like heart attack and kidney failure - especially when the condition is silent - the “silent killer ”.
