Grace Tame issues apology for earlier remarks on alleged October 7 sexual violence

Grace Tame, who previously served as Australian of the Year, posted a video on Instagram to apologise for remarks made during a March one outlet Radio Sydney interview. In that interview she described reports of mass rape on October 7 as "propaganda" that had been "debunked," leading many to think she disbelieved Israeli survivors. Tame now says her words were misinterpreted and reiterates her commitment to stand with all survivors of sexual violence, regardless of nationality.

She cited Human Rights Watch's inability to find evidence of systematic rape on that day, while acknowledging documented cases of individual assault. Tame also emphasized she does not hate Israelis or Jewish people and condemns the actions of the State of Israel. The apology follows a surge of public complaints after the original comments.
