Gramado Film Festival Plans to Make Young Filmmakers Residency a Permanent Feature

The Gramado Film Festival announced that its inaugural Residency for Young Filmmakers will be continued and evaluated for permanent inclusion in future editions.

The Gramado Film Festival wrapped up its first Residency for Young Filmmakers on Aug. 19 and confirmed a follow-up session for the 2027 edition, with the possibility of establishing the initiative permanently. Sixty emerging filmmakers between 18 and 35 years old took part, receiving 27 hours of instruction from notable Brazilian film professionals such as Márcio Fraccaroli, Verônica Stumpf, Mara Lobão, Silvio Guindane, Leonardo Edde, Julia Priolli, Thaís Colli, Flávia Pereira Costa and several directors.

Rosa Helena Volk, president of Gramadotur, said the festival will assess whether the current format—size, grouping and age range—needs tweaking. Participants like Marlon Andrade and Gabrielly Pires highlighted networking and career-direction benefits. The program also featured speakers from the AI Film Awards Brasil, underscoring the festival’s broader industry focus.

Why it matters

The initiative aims to nurture Brazil's next generation of filmmakers, strengthening the country's cinematic talent pipeline.
