Grandfather says Bistrița teen who stabbed teacher was bullied victim

A 13-year-old student who stabbed a teacher and a classmate in Bistrița was described by his grandfather as a good student who suffered bullying at school.

According to his grandfather, the 13-year-old attacker was a calm, high-performing student who became isolated after being bullied by groups of aggressive classmates. Despite parents raising the issue with teachers since fourth grade and providing a phone recording of the complaints, the school allegedly failed to intervene. On the day of the attack, the boy arrived at school wearing protective gear, and later stabbed a math teacher and a fellow student, causing severe injuries that required surgery and hospitalization.

The teacher remains in intensive care, while the younger victim was discharged with medical recommendations. Authorities have taken the boy for psychiatric evaluation, and the school’s director announced plans to request metal detectors to prevent future incidents.

Why it matters

The case highlights failures in school bullying prevention and raises concerns about safety measures in Romanian schools.
