Grandmother leaves 10-month-old in scorching car outside clinic, child dies
A 10-month-old girl died after her grandmother, Dr. Stacey Fazenbaker, left her in a hot vehicle outside a medical clinic in Madisonville, Kentucky.
Madisonville police reported that 10-month-old Scottie Gwyn Crowell was discovered dead in the back of her grandmother’s car parked outside Owensboro Health Multicare on Aug. 13. The vehicle, left unattended for roughly eight hours, reached an interior temperature of 115 degrees, according to one outlet's reports. Dr. Stacey Fazenbaker, who works at the clinic, had offered to transport the baby to daycare that morning but proceeded directly to her shift, forgetting the child inside.
When the father arrived at 4 p.m. to pick up the infant, staff informed him the child had never been dropped off. Emergency personnel performed lifesaving measures after the grandmother retrieved the child, but she could not be revived. Police have administered drug and alcohol tests to the grandmother and indicated that charges could be pursued before a grand jury convenes, while an autopsy will determine the official cause of death.
