Grandson of Genting founder seeks court removal of estate administrators

Marcus Chan Jau Chwen has asked the High Court to dismiss the interim administrators of his late mother Lim Siew Kim's RM1.6 billion estate, alleging unauthorized lawyer payments.

In Kuala Lumpur, the High Court examined a petition by Marcus Chan Jau Chwen to oust interim administrators Datuk S. Satharuban and Khoo Siew Kiat of his mother Lim Siew Kim's RM1.6 billion estate. Chan alleges the administrators disbursed more than RM2 million to lawyers in 2024 despite a court order requiring prior judicial scrutiny of such payments. He further contends that funds were drawn from personal accounts rather than the designated trust account, that estate resources were improperly spent, and that the administrators nearly caused a RM4.73 million liability to be paid for a joint-venture partner.

Additional complaints include unauthorized property valuations, private caveats, and interference in companies linked to the estate. Chan argues these actions demonstrate a reasonable suspicion of misconduct, justifying their removal. The hearing, overseen by Judge Datuk Mahazan Abdul Taib, continues.

Why it matters

The case could reshape how high-value estates are managed and enforce court oversight of administrators.
