Grant Forrest clinches Open de España win, earning spots at The Masters and The Open
Scotland's Grant Forrest birdied the final hole to win the Open de España, securing entry to next year's Masters at Augusta and the Open at St Andrews.
Grant Forrest captured his third DP World Tour triumph by birdying the 18th at the Open de España, edging out Eugenio Chacarra and Victor Perez by a single stroke. The 33-year-old posted a 14-under-par total, climbing from 118th to 27th in the Race to Dubai after the $637,500 win. The victory guarantees him a place in next year's Masters at Augusta and a third start at The Open, which will be held at St Andrews.
Forrest, who had struggled with four consecutive missed cuts, called the result "fairytale stuff" during one outlet Golf interview. He joined a select group of Scottish golfers who have previously won on the DP World Tour. The tournament, with a $3.75 million purse, also saw other Scottish players finish in the lower ranks.
Why it matters
Forrest's win secures his participation in two of golf's most prestigious majors, boosting his career and Scottish representation.
