Greece and India Discuss Expanding Defense Ties and Regional Security Cooperation
Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias met Indian ambassador Ravi Shankar to explore ways to deepen bilateral defence cooperation and address regional security challenges.
Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias held a meeting with Indian ambassador Ravi Shankar at the defence ministry, focusing on regional security issues and the prospect of deeper Greece-India defence collaboration. This dialogue builds on a series of senior exchanges, notably the February meeting of Prime Ministers Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Narendra Modi in New Delhi, where the leaders confirmed their strategic partnership and discussed cooperation in defence, infrastructure, technology and connectivity.
Dendias has previously noted favourable conditions for joint work on defence innovation and advanced tech, while naval forces from both countries have already conducted joint training exercises in the eastern Mediterranean and Indian vessels have visited Greek ports. Athens also expressed interest in contributing to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor and promoting Greece as a gateway for Indian companies entering the European market. Economic cooperation is being pursued alongside the security agenda, with officials pointing to opportunities in trade, logistics, technology and investment.
Why it matters
The talks signal a strengthening of Greece-India security and economic ties, influencing regional balance and trade routes.
