Greece launches national supercomputer Daidalos, ranking among world’s top systems

The Greek supercomputer Daidalos was inaugurated today at the National Technical University of Athens, with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in attendance.

Today, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended the opening of Daidalos, Greece’s national supercomputer, located at the Technological Cultural Park of Lavrio on the campus of the National Technical University of Athens. Housed in the renovated former Lavrio Power Station, the machine joins the new Data Center and secures the 31st position on the TOP500 ranking while placing 23rd on the Green500 list for energy efficiency.

Managed by the National Research and Technology Infrastructure Network (GRNET), the facility will provide high-performance computing resources to academic, research, startup, SME and public sector users, facilitating large-scale simulations, big-data analysis and AI training. Daidalos also forms the core of the PHAROS AI factory, linking hardware with tools and expertise for broader innovation. The initiative is integrated into the “Ellada 2.0” national recovery and resilience plan and receives funding from the European Union’s NextGenerationEU programme and the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking.
