Greece to launch National Dementia Care Hub in Peristeri, aiming for country-wide network
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis signed the agreement to create a National Standard Center for Dementia in Peristeri, targeting a comprehensive care network across Greece.
During a ceremony in Peristeri, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis signed a contract to establish Greece's first National Standard Center for Dementia, which will act as the flagship of a national care grid. The center will offer expertise, services and guidelines to similar facilities throughout the country, while also promoting research and public awareness. Mitsotakis warned that dementia cases are rising alongside demographic aging in Greece and Europe, and he called for efforts to combat the disease's stigma.
By 2027 the hub should deliver early-stage monitoring, personalized care, caregiver guidance and certified training for medical staff. The plan includes parallel centers in Giannena, Kilkis, Kastoria, Laconia, Rodopi and a second site in Athens, all coordinated from the Peristeri hub. Mitsotakis also emphasized collaboration between the public sector, private entities and charitable foundations to sustain the initiative.
